I discovered at a very young age that I loved being in the presence of older adults. When I entered into adulthood, I became a hospice volunteer. I also volunteered as an Ombudsman where I advocated for Seniors at an assigned nursing home.

My most recent pleasure was working as part of a Life Enrichment team at a retirement facility. During my time there I became a certified Ageless Grace Educator. I also created a Writers Workshop for the Independent Living Residents in addition to introducing new and exciting activities such as guided meditation and noodle volleyball to the assisted living residents.  My additional training in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia allowed me to better assist those who were afflicted with these medical conditions.

My passionate love for older adults was confirmed during my employment. It became clear to me, more than ever, that I had a God given gift which was bringing happiness into their lives. As time went on I began to observe a growing need.

New residents were moving in at a steady rate but I seldomly saw them at events and activities which our Team hosted. I took the initiative and voiced my concern to the Director. I was given permission to visit these new residents. I was put in charge of welcoming new residents as they moved in.

I would receive an email from our marketing department when a new resident arrived. I would then call them and schedule a time to personally greet them. When I met with them, I would supply them with a folder which contained a map of the facility and a calendar of events along with some other information.

Before I knew it, I was meeting them at certain times to take them to activities that they were interested in. What would happen next made my heart so happy!

You see, once they became familiar with their new environment and began talking with other residents, they were off and running! All they needed was personal attention, someone to take them by the hand and say “I’ll go with you.”

I realized then that I wanted to devote all of my time to helping new residents TRANSITION to their new living environment. Unfortunately, my position consisted of various other responsibilities that consumed my time.

Subsequently, the DIRE need to serve our elderly in this way, which has been overlooked for so long, inspired me to answer the call. Thus, Blissful Beginnings was conceived!!!
